What a worn pivot actually looks like
The door drags or scrapes the threshold
The classic sign. The bottom pivot has collapsed and the door has dropped. Replacing the pivot set lifts it back into position and the dragging stops immediately.
The door slams no matter how the closer is set
A door sitting low is no longer square in the frame, so the closer cannot control the final few inches. Adjusting the closer on a worn pivot is treating the symptom.
The deadlatch no longer meets the keeper
